A protocol for the genotyping of 37 HPV types using hybridization of the modified general primer (MGP)-amplicon to a defined set of HPV specific probes by Luminex ® technology has been developed at the WHO-HPV LabNet Global Reference Laboratory in Malmö, Sweden, and was implemented at the Norwegian HPV Reference Laboratory in 2010 to monitor HPV vaccine effectiveness. Nested PCR followed by genotyping using Luminex technology (1) (www.luminexcorp.com). The precise HPV type(s) are reported. Presence of additional types other than the ones reported cannot be excluded. The detection limit is between 10 and 100 copies for most mucosal HPV types.
